Input > Output

This book was created in response to a brief with the theme “Making The Invisible Visible” - a workshop led by Anna Gerber. It is a book that analyzes the utilization of a particular object (earphones) and listening data/patterns.

If one flips through the book it will seem to be all white – a reference to the absence and the invisible. If one folds out the pages, the invisible becomes visible and the content of the book is revealed. The book uses the same colors as the object analyzed and its visual aspect was developed to resemble a report or manual.

Preface reads:

Buying something means getting a service. This service is only produced when the object one buys is being utilised. Therefore, as a user, I am part of the production of the earphones I own. The story of an object is not only how it is built, where it is built and which materials are used on its creation, but also how people engage with it and experience it. Given this, analysing my listening data/patterns is part of what defines my object’s output. Part of its production story is my experience and this is what can make it valuable. Another part of the object’s cycle is related with its physical elements.
